Meet Dehong's New Teachers

On August 15th, 20 Chinese teachers and 4 expat teachers were on board and started their induction. We were so excited to have them join the Dehong family. 

Today, we invited three teachers to give you a brief introduction of their background and their ideas on the education.

Cindy Cheng (Deputy Head of Elementary School)

Cindy Chen has been working in private and international schools for more than 15 years. She served in multiple capacities, including English teacher, music teacher, head of art, head of home teachers and dean. In her previous school, she was the part of the management team and helped the school to create PBL teaching form. She communicated and coordinated closely with all staff to support student success.

Elani McDonald (IB Coordinator) 

After completing her first degree in South Africa, Elani moved to London to start her international teaching career. In the past 12 years, she has worked in the UK, USA and now in China. Elani was shortlisted as mathematics teacher of the year 2014 in the UK and is an Apple Distinguished Educator. She recently completed her MBA in Educational Leadership from UCL. Further to her love of learning, she also has a love for writing and has developed curriculum for the IB and is a co-author of the Science for the International Student textbook series. Elani is excited about meeting the students and implementing the IB at Dehong.

Joanne Li (University Counsellor) 

Born and grew up in Beijing, Joanne Li completed her bachelor degree from Beijing the Second Foreign Languages University, and her master degree courses from Beijing Normal University. She is a qualified middle school English teacher, she also gained University Counseling certificate from the University of California, San Diego in 2013.  Joanne participated in many counseling workshops organized by Triple-A, IACAC (International Association for College Admission Counseling) and CIS (Council of International Schools).

Before moving to Dehong, Joanne was working in Dulwich College Beijing as University guidance counselor for 10 years.
