A Week-Long Celebration of Reading

World Book Day is a yearly event on April 23rd, organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, to promote reading, publishing and copyright.

To celebrate and show the importance of reading, a week-long event was carried out at Dehong this whole week.

During this week, students were involved in many reading-geared events such as Morning Reading in reception, Drop Everything and Read (DEAR), Book Exchange, etc. Parents also volunteered to read stories for students.

On Friday, British spoken word artist, author and poet, Harry Baker was invited to Dehong to deliver a speech about poetry and workshop with students to compose performance poetry.

Building individual reading skills and habits is so important, as are the benefits students receive from being read to. At Dehong, we emphasize reading for pleasure because it helps increase students’ comprehension, strategies, empathy and understanding of the world better.

Let's drop everything and celebrate reading!
