Fun Spring Days, Full of Energy | Shanghai Dehong ES Sports Day

As spring blossoms, the eagerly awaited Shanghai Dehong Elementary Sports Dayhas arrived! This year’s Sports Day spansfive days, with each day featuring exciting competitions from one grade level. Continuing the tradition of our House system, the elementary school students are divided into four Houses: Yung Wing, Song, Earhart, and Shackleton, all competing for their respective House’s honor.

On the day of the event, students wear their House uniforms and proudly wave their House flags as they march into the field, radiating energy and anticipation in their steps and eyes. Parents of the elementary students are also invited to the sidelines to cheer for their children, witnessing their sporting achievements and sharing in the joy of their growth.

This year's Sports Day featured a wide variety of events, including both field and track competitions. Running races tested speed, throwing events challenged strength, jumping contests assessed technique, and fun games brought laughter. Every child took part in all activities, experiencing the charm of each event and showcasing their athletic talents. Let’s take a look back at the vibrant moments of the day, feeling the passion and joy the children expressed through their competitive spirit!

Running

Among all the sports events, the sprints and hurdles were undoubtedly the most exciting. At the start line of the sprint, children dashed towards the finish line at full speed after the teacher’s command, demonstrating impressive explosive power. In the hurdles section, the young athletes leaped gracefully over each hurdle with the agility of swallows in flight, showing their quickness and precision.

Throwing

Throwing events combine strength and skill. On the javelin, shot put, and target-throwing fields, children focused intently, gathering all their strength into their arms. With a powerful throw, the objects soared through the air, drawing elegant arcs and showcasing the remarkable strength hidden in their small bodies.

Jumping

In the standing long jump and standing triple jump, children focused with determination, unleashing boundless energy at the moment of takeoff. They soared through the air like eagles, each jump displaying outstanding coordination and balance. The audience cheered every time their feet landed firmly on the ground.

Fun Games

Laughter echoed across the field during the fun events. The obstacle race was a contest of agility, with children racing through the course like playful deer, deftly navigating over barriers and through hoops with smooth, fluid motions. The "egg-and-spoon" race tested their balance, with each child concentrating deeply as they carefully moved the ball with a spoon, trying to prevent it from falling. The mixture of tension and fun made this event a memorable highlight.

After a week of intense competition, based on the cumulative points of each grade’s House, Yung Wing House emerged victorious! We are also incredibly proud of each student who gave their all during the sports events. During the award ceremony, students raised their cups of glory in a proud moment, and the elementary sports day concluded amid applause and proud smiles.

Sports are an indispensable part of Shanghai Dehong’s commitment to the holistic education philosophy. We are dedicated to ensuring students have ample opportunities for high-quality physical exercise, enriching their physical fitness, fostering teamwork and perseverance, and preparing them with a healthy body, resilient will, and optimistic attitude to face the challenges ahead. We hope that each Dehong student will continue to strive to exceed their limits on the sports field and throughout their journey of growth, always moving towards greater goals with enthusiasm and determination!
