This fall, a group of high school students from Dehong Shanghai, accompanied by their college counselors, embarked on a University Visiting Tour to California. As part of Dehong’s "Lighthouse Program", the trip aimed to provide students with a firsthand look at prestigious universities, giving them the opportunity to meet admissions officers, learn about each university's unique strengths, and lay a solid foundation for their future academic plans and applications.
In just 10 days, the students visited 13 prestigious universities in California, including California Institute of Technology (Caltech), University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and University of Southern California (USC).
During the University Visiting Tour, the students attended informative sessions prepared by each institution, where they learned about academic programs, campus life, and the unique culture at each school. Led by student ambassadors, they also toured the campuses, experiencing the distinct environments and traditions of these renowned universities. A special highlight of the trip was the opportunity for students to meet admissions officers face-to-face, and even dine with alumni from USC and UCLA.
These interactions not only provided deeper insights into each university's admissions policies and standards, but also offered valuable advice and direction for their academic and career planning. Additionally, throughout the journey, the students engaged in discussions with their college counselors on a variety of topics, including U.S. history, society, culture, and education, significantly broadening their perspectives and knowledge.
